KIDS - Monday and Wednesday from 6.45pm to 7.30pm
Parents know how fickle their children's interests can be, the challenge with any martial art is keeping children interested so that learning becomes fun.
Ju-jitsu doesn't rely on the repetitive katas (exercise forms) that many Martial arts rely on for their content. This doesn't mean that katas are not important, however the repetitive nature of these kata exercises bore younger children and they can quickly lose interest.
To keep children's interest we teach a combination of Karate and Judo techniques as well as some basic self-defence awareness. Our games reinforce these skills, for example a simple game of tag can be used as training for getting away from someone who is trying to grab you, teaching spatial awareness, speed, balance, coordination etc.
This keeps the lessons interesting, fun and lively. Young new comers are often given a more experienced student to help them with the basics. This promotes confidence in the timid student and produces a friendly environment in which to learn.
No student is ever forced to participate in any of the activities if they do not want to, they are encouraged, if still reticent, they are left with the option of taking part on another occasion - which they usually do.
We take students from the age of 6 yrs. Between the ages of 13 and 16, depending on their size and ability they can join the Senior classes.
